Why is gold moving today

Lookout reports: Chronicle reports: Parallax reports:

Conclusion · assumed

The evidence does not explain why gold is moving today.

The move is small: Lookout's data shows XAUUSD at 4175, up 0.24% on the session. Lookout could not conclude that this is a meaningful move, since nothing among the instruments it checked moved more than 0.25%. It found no other notable moves in DXY or the 10-year yield, and had no data on them.
No cause is established: Chronicle found no reported event that caused the move. Three USD releases came out in the last 24 hours, with CPI y/y at 2.74% against a 2.9% forecast, but nothing ties them to gold's move.
Upcoming event: Non-Farm Payrolls (USD, high impact) is scheduled for 3:44 PM, with a forecast of 165k. It has not been released, so it cannot explain today's move.
Silver: Parallax found almost no relationship between gold and silver (r = +0.09 over 239 hourly bars), so silver does not help explain the move.

All figures come from sample data, not live quotes or a live calendar, so treat them as unverified.
